It took me a while to figure out how to explain what our day-to-day looks like at Scriptorium. These days, my go-to response is “How much time do you have?”
The roles each Scriptorium team member plays are highly specialized, and explaining the intricacies of our day-to-day work could take hours. Every client is unique, requiring us to draw on a specific combination of our team’s skills and expertise. As projects evolve, so do the tasks and the skill sets they demand. This often means collaborating, with team members adding their skills to projects as needs shift and priorities change.

One overarching trend in the skills our clients search for is our ability to transform complex, disorganized material into clear, organized, digestible, and concise content tailored to their needs.
Some clients, particularly those we’ve worked with before, come to us knowing exactly what they need. In those cases, the process is straightforward: we identify the right project manager and team member(s) for the task and move efficiently toward completion.
Other clients approach us with an idea and are seeking guidance to establish the foundation needed to get their projects off the ground. Scriptorium’s role is to tease out that vision by asking the right questions, then laying the groundwork necessary to move the project forward.
These questions may look like:
What is your purpose, audience, and means?
What branding or stylistic guidelines should we follow?
What are your deadlines?
What is your budget?
What type of content is needed, and what specific deliverables are expected?
What are you hoping to achieve in the next week, month, or year?
Uncovering the intricacies of a client’s needs, especially those a client has yet to explore, requires an experienced, well-versed team familiar with common knowledge gaps and the information needed to address them. Taking a proactive approach ensures clients leave satisfied, minimizes repeated questions or work, and keeps processes and tasks as streamlined and efficient as possible.
Fortunately, this is precisely where Scriptorium excels. Our expertise spans a wide range of services and niches, including:
Developing style guides and updating existing documents to ensure consistency and adherence to brand standards
Organizing and optimizing document libraries, including updating naming conventions to make content more navigable
Designing social media strategies and marketing plans to support initiatives or brand presence
Creating visual content such as infographics, charts, and other data-driven graphics
Revamping website content, transforming outdated or convoluted material into concise, user-friendly experiences
Proofreading and editing to enhance clarity, readability, and overall impact of existing content
Developing presentations and training materials, including workbooks and instructional resources
Creating manuals for complex or new technology software, ensuring accessibility and usability
Translating content into Spanish to expand reach and accessibility for a broader audience

Our work is a learning process for us as well, as we take the time to understand who our clients are and what they want to achieve. By immersing ourselves in client material, we ensure it is presented in the most effective and impactful way possible and aligned with their goals.
Reaching this point takes experience, and fortunately, Scriptorium has built that experience across a wide range of projects through our work with both past and current clients. We are grateful for our collaborations, as they present us with opportunities to learn about valuable initiatives and master our skills in a variety of areas.
So, the next time someone asks me, “What does your day-to-day at Scriptorium look like?” my answer will be simple: a little bit of everything.
